Beras Sia is an indigenous variety of red rice cultivated at 1000m above sea level of Bakalalan, Lawas northeast Highlands of Borneo by the natives of Lun Bawang. The natural red of the rice is coloured by the Anthocyanin content at the outer coating of the grain. Beras Sia is popular among the locals because of its high health values and helps in lowering cholesterol level. It is rich in manganese, calcium, high antioxidant and other nutrients. The semi-polished Beras Sia is done in this manner to achieve balance between its nutrients and eating quality. The rice texture is softer, aromatic and tasty when cooked.
